Archive of Filmic Expressions

"How should one call what I'm missing?" Harun Farocki asked, pointing to a fundamental difficulty in dealing with moving images. Unlike the terms in written or spoken language, "cinematic expressions" do not consist of discrete letters and words – which also means that they are difficult to search for, access and retrieve. Farocki also missed the ability to learn cinematic expressions and practice using them. This cluster gathers Farocki's films, video and TV works, as well as texts and exhibition projects that can be considered contributions to an "archive of cinematic expressions." Found footage films on specific motifs or cinematic topoi, reflections on a "library of images," material and propositions for training ones visual vocabulary.
